MOMBASA DAY & EVENING EXCURSIONS

Kenya’s most ancient town, Mombasa, is in actual fact, an island, boasting a history dating back several centuries ago. The town was first mentioned in a sailing guide, periplus of the Erythrean Sea’, but it was on the 2nd century maps by Ptolemy that the town was clearly marked. Then came the ‘lull’ period till the 15th century when Vasco da Gama, a navigator from Portugal, was defeated with his army and driven out of the ancient city. Some of his countrymen later return to take over the town and built Fort Jesus to shield them from future attacks.
